Chartered Institute of Accountants in Malawi (ICAM)

The Chartered Institute of Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) – merged the operations of Public Accountants and Examinations Council of Malawi with those of the Society of Accountants in Malawi (SOCAM).

ICAM was incorporated on 23 August 2013.

To date ICAM has 2,000+ members. The number is expected to double to 4,000 by 31 December 2019. There are currently about 8,000 students on the ICAM register out of which 1,500 took exams at the June 2019 diet.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Institute is held every year. The Council members are elected at the AGM. The Council reports to the AGM. The Council is responsible for formulating policies which are implemented by the Secretariat. Technical Committees exist to support the Secretariat analyse issues before they are submitted to the Council for approvals.

The Secretariat is headed by a Chief Executive Officer who is supported by three directors responsible for Technical and Membership Services, Education and Training and Corporate Services.

The Institute administers professional examinations in June and December every year for three programs – Certificate in Financial Accounting, Accounting Technician Diploma and Chartered Accountant. The Chartered Accountant program has got 3 levels – Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.
