SUMMARY:Accounting for Net Zero
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]When it comes to net zero\, there is often confusion surrounding the key role that accountants have to play in progressing sustainability schemes and how they are intrinsic in implementing change. Whilst carbon neutrality is becoming the most attractive business option\, there are not enough offsetting projects to offset the GHGs (Green House Gas emissions) that we generate. With the finance professionals holding the purse strings\, it is becoming increasingly clear that they are best placed to influence ESG agendas\, drive sustainability and find avenues to reduce emissions. It is time for you to step up\, push the boundaries and do things differently. \nIn this practical and interactive session\, we sit down with 4 business leaders and finance professionals\, who are driving climate action in their organisation. You will learn from those who have already carved the path that you want to take\, understand the do’s and don’ts\, and come away with practical insight\, giving you the tools to help your business’ net zero agenda. \nThe conversation will focus on how leaders in business and finance are positioned to initiate conversations about Net Zero within the companies they operate and oversee the implementation of climate related disclosures to maximise positive impact. \nSpeakers \nGraeme Gibson\, Finance Director\, Edinburgh Airport \nAmir Dossal\, Founder and President\, Global Partnerships Forum[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Find out more & book online” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fnetzerofestival.com%2F|target:_blank”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1621848798784{padding-top: 35px !important;padding-bottom: 35px !important;}” el_class=”grey-bg-caw”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nSpeakers\n[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion c_position=”right” active_section=”1″ collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Amir Dossal\, Founder and President\, Global Partnerships Forum” tab_id=”Amir-Dossal”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”429730″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_circle_2″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nAmir Dossal is Founder and President of the Global Partnerships Forum – a not-for-profit knowledge platform providing changemakers with tools to build innovative partnerships for the SDGs.\n\nHe is co-founder of the Pearl Initiative\, the Ocean Sanctuary Alliance\, Blockchain Commission for Sustainable Development\, and the Coalition for Better Health. SUMMARY:TaxCon 2021 - Harnessing Change: Telemedicine & Digitising Stockvels
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nAs technological changes and other changes driven by natural disasters such as pandemics\, continue to drive innovation and create opportunities\, knowing what is changing\, how and why is the first step in planning to harness such change to create a sustainable business and a sustainable world.\nThis year the TaxCon theme is “Harnessing Change.” The conference will be hosted as a webcast as previously done last year and will delve into various change trends in a number of sectors and the tax implications thereof. The conference will identify the key players that have contributed to innovative change and have them unpack and provide insights into what drove this change and also where tax fits in with the change. \nDay 2: 2 September 13:00 -15:00\nHow do new business models that are driven by technology such as virtual influencing\, ethical hacking\, telemedicine and digitised stokvels generate revenue? What are the tax implications for these businesses? \nSession 1: Telemedicine\nThe field of medicine is changing rapidly\, particularly regarding the changing societal need for proximity between medical professionals and patients.Telemedicine is the practice of medicine using technology to deliver care at a distance and has the potential to increase access to quality healthcare while reducing costs to patients and the healthcare system. \n\nWhat income tax issues apply to both taxable and tax-exempt healthcare providers who employ telemedicine?\nWhen the use of telemedicine crosses geographical lines\, what are local and international tax consequences?\nAs a general rule\, the value of cash and non-cash benefits provided to an employee by an employer is taxable\, unless specifically excluded. SUMMARY:CA of the Future 2021 series - Webcast
DESCRIPTION:As the world navigates changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the fourth industrial revolution (4IR)\, SAICA members and associates are adapting to the changing times\, and continuing to provide responsible leadership during this time. They are unlearning a number of old “habits\, knowledge and skills” and embracing a lot of new ways of work and business. This includes for example embracing and leading around new disruptive technologies in the work environment\, becoming more agile (preparing for new roles that are still being defined and will continue to evolve over time)\, or enhancing the strategic outlook on matters of organizational success\, including business models and value creation. The CA of the Future series\, powered by SAICA enabling competencies forms an important part of professional development for SAICA members to gear up for the ongoing changes and disruptions. \nSAICA enabling competencies are essential skills that influence the ways SAICA members work\, think\, live\, as well as the tools they use in their environments. Enabling competencies are pervasive to a member’s work and behaviour and are transversal\, to be used effectively across different environments\, functions and roles. Enabling competencies allow members to function as a competent professional accountant\, manager or leader in an organisation (seen as a digital environment)\, by displaying decision-making and relational acumens. As technology continues to improve becoming more prevalent to everything that accountants do\, and as societal and stakeholder needs continue to evolve\, and become increasingly complex\, both opportunities and challenges are being created for current and future members and associates. This series unpacks certain aspects of the expected competence and shapeshifting for accountancy professionals\, and aspires to influence attendees to pay particular attention to and apply the SAICA enabling competencies as they continue to provide responsible leadership and serve their stakeholders. \nWho Should Attend\nAll members\, associates and non-members looking to better understand and prepare for the current and future changes in the world of work\, business and the profession. \nBenefits\nThe series will provide participants with knowledge and an awareness on a number of topics related to the SAICA enabling competencies\, equipping them for the changing world of work\, business\, and the accountancy profession. SUMMARY:The crucial role of business in the 2050 decarbonisation target
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The cost of renewable power is falling rapidly. Since 2010\, the cost of solar power has fallen by 85%\, and that of wind power by 49%. Solar and wind are now cheaper than new coal and gas power plants in two thirds of the countries of the world. The costs of batteries and other flexibility technologies are also falling rapidly\, meaning that renewables are ever easier to integrate into grids. \nAdvancing offshore wind and driving the growth of low carbon hydrogen are both parts of the UK Prime Minister’s Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution. Business is already seizing the opportunities this provides. Working alongside partners in industry\, the UK aims to develop 5GW of low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030 that could see the UK benefit from around 8\,000 jobs across our industrial heartlands and beyond. \nAt this event\, industry leaders will discuss the business opportunities in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region and how governments and businesses can work together to create jobs\, prosperity and clean power for the future? \nThis is a Britcham hosted event and free to ICAEW members. The webinar link will be sent to participants 24hrs before the event.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book now” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fevents.icaew.com%2FShoppingCart.aspx%3Fcom%3Ddetailview%26iid%3D21132|target:_blank”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Developing a healthy curiosity to anticipate fraud before it happens
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The phrase “professional scepticism” is something which is deeply rooted in the world of auditing.
