ICAEW Climate Essay Competition

Climate Essay
Aimed at students and recently qualified members, ICAEW is holding a competition asking entrants to submit a 5,000-word essay, video, podcast, or other media format, answering the question:

The Great Transition: what do we need to do and what role does the accountancy profession have?

The winner will receive a prize of £5,000 and have their essay published on the ICAEW website. The prize has been generously funded by the Chartered Accountants’ Permanent Education Trust (CAPET). The Trustees would like to motivate the future leaders of the profession to consider how the profession can act on the climate crisis.

We are looking for your entries to be imaginative and innovative. Human induced climate change is affecting the world now and the focus of the essay should be on action needed to adapt to the impacts already being felt, and to mitigate further damage.

Some areas you may wish to consider are:

  • How can the transition to net-zero be achieved?
  • What role does the accountancy profession have?
  • Interdependencies of climate change, biodiversity loss, and broader social and economic issues.

Entries close on 31 March 2023. Please send your entries and any queries you may have to sarah.reay@icaew.com.
