This year’s annual One Young World Summit took place in Manchester, England and brought together over two thousand of the brightest young leaders from every country and sector, working to accelerate social impact both in-person and digitally. Delegates arrived from over 190 countries and were counselled by influential political, business, and humanitarian leaders such as Justin Trudeau, Paul Polman and Meghan Markle, and many others to harness the knowledge and skills needed for being impactful change makers.
Chartered Accountants Worldwide sent a 13 strong delegation from Australia, New Zealand, Zambia, Singapore, South Africa, Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales. All the cohort are difference makers in their own communities and won their places to attend the summit because of the passion and commitment they are showing as future leaders in the Chartered Accountancy profession.
Our delegates spent a packed four days attending speeches, panels, networking sessions and workshops. Chartered Accountants Worldwide/FinBiz2030 hosted a very successful –workshop, attended by 50 young leaders, on the importance of financial literacy to unlock the UN global SDGs. The workshop saw former One Young World delegate – now ambassador – and Chartered Accountants Ireland member, Dr. Caroline McGroary present alongside Fiona Smiddy, this year’s CA Ireland delegate and FinBiz2030 Irish taskforce member. The workshop asked participants to examine their own level of financial literacy through an interactive quiz as well as finding solutions to making financial literacy available and relevant to communities across the globe. Going forward, Chartered Accountants Worldwide and FinBiz2030 plan to launch a global working group to build a body of accessible lessons aimed initially at school children that can be tailored to local needs to bring equity of knowledge no matter what the socio-economic background of the child.
Our delegates were delighted to have the opportunity to challenge world leaders, engage with industry experts on topics such as ocean literacy, circular cities, and resilient economies as well as making new connections at the many social events hosted at amazing venues throughout the city. Here are some of their highlights:
