Nature’s Balance Sheet: What is the role of accountants in tackling the nature crisis?

Nature provides us with clean air, water, food and a wealth of materials for free. Over half the world’s GDP, roughly US$44 trillion of global economic value generation, is moderately or highly dependent on nature. Yet, we are losing this essential asset at an alarming rate, with most of the loss having taken place within the last 50 years. Biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse, along with natural resource crises, feature in the top four of the World Economic Forum’s list of the top ten economic risks for the next ten years.

Impact reporting by charities

ICAS recently released the second of a two-part research project, this element considers the importance of charity impact information to funders, donors and supporters. It aims to improve understanding of the current charity impact disclosure practices and consider how funders and donors use these reports to satisfy their accountability requirements and make future funding decisions.
